At the Fork in the Road

At the Fork in the Road, Landscape
At the Fork in the Road
9"x18" acrylic on cradled wood panel. This painting was inspired by a location where I stood in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. New England was my home for many years and the landscape and my adventures there will always be in my heart. My hope, in this piece, is that the viewer will feel the soul of the landscape as I felt it the day I stood in this spot. A colorful playground lies beneath the final scene and a few layers (sanded between each) give it a history reflecting the contemplative feeling of standing on this hillside. I gave this the title ‘At the Fork in the Road’ while I was working on finishing touches. Aside from the obvious fork in the road where the road splits on either side of the homestead, I realized how many of those forked, v-shaped intersections I was creating in the branches, in the mountains and where each element in the scene meets another. Many of them directing you back to the actual fork in the road, you know, just in case you chose the wrong path the first time, you get a second chance. Here’s to second chances in life.
