in October 2018, i repainted van Gogh’s The Starry Night without the cypress tree. i never liked the cypress tree, i thought it took too much away from the night, one of my favorite subjects. plus, it represents death and van Gogh’s fascination with it. while that may have been an issue of mine at one point, YIKES, the truth is all i wanted was peace. painting this gave me so much peace. there is other religious symbolism following the supposed motif of Cafe Terrace at night by van Gogh. the 11 stars represent his brothers in the dream of Joseph , plus the sun (middle) and the moon representing his parents. the moon is larger as per the importance of one's mother. the sun is the next largest as Jacob was Joseph's father and also a prophet. the circle of white lines around the sun represent the tears cried by Jacob when mourning the loss of his son . the small orange core of the smallest stars represents the older siblings' fascination/obsession/envy for their father's love for the youngest two. the bluish-white glow represent the blessings, decrees of destiny coming to the town hence the title of the most important night in Islam, Laylat Al Qadr. this represents even the night will end, darkness disappears and light will come, and the sun sets and the moon fades away representative of the moon disappearing and sun setting in Abraham contemplations about God.
