The entire landscape was created "en plein air"...with the linen canvas attached to the back of my rig, 3/4 down my dirt drive way, and painted, leaving areas for the figures of the women and geese, to be painted in the studio from my photo reference! I have a series called "Women in White", where I explore the "color" of white...< which is ALL COLORS! Three major elements in any strong painting: 1. DESIGN: how the objects relate to one another. I work primarily in thirds: breaking up spaces in 1/3, to create a dynamic design!
2. VALUE: any painting, be it abstract or photo-realism or impressionistic, needs 3 values. Can be hight key, middle, or deep values. 3. COLOR: playing warm against cool, dull against bright, compliments against one another, and neutrals ... And obviously in my Women in White...I explore the full range that the color white can embrace! Thus women in white dresses and the added excitement of white geese, a small touch of the "wild"!!
ALL of the above, is a journey to carry the viewer from one area to another, or even to ignore an area, so the main subject is stronger!
